Former Sheffield Wednesday assistant manager, Bruno Lage, has seemingly admitted that star player Adam Reach was a potential transfer target for him over the summer transfer window now he’s sat in the hotseat of Portuguese giants Benfica.

Having assisted former gaffer Carlos Carvalhal for two and a half odd years at Hillsborough, Lage knows Reach well and his talents, and in particular his eye for a spectacular goal, and speaking to media last Friday, he namechecked the 26-year-old versatile midfielder as being a player he had looked at over the summer.

Speaking to outlet Mais Futebol as he covered the window with the media, Lage explained.

“Since I’m a nice guy, I’ll give you one more name. Adam Reach. He’s like a player like Chiquinho, but he doesn’t have a moustache, like André Almeida. He is more like Chris Waddle.”

His words seem a little bit on the more humourous side to me, so I’m not sure how serious any kind of interest may have been in reality – especially the moustache crack – but the outlet themselves suggest that they believe from their sources that he was definitely considered by the club as a target, but that they didn’t progress any kind of deal.

Given the ‘worldies’ he scored last season that more put him on the map, it’s no surprise to see clubs taking an interest.
